TorizonCore 5.7.2 Maintenance Release

We are pleased to announce the TorizonCore 5.7.2 maintenance release for Toradex's System on Modules.

TorizonCore is our operating system that powers Torizon, a DevOps platform that simplifies the development and maintenance of embedded Linux software. TorizonCore is designed to be used out-of-the-box on devices requiring high reliability, allowing you to focus on your application instead of on building and maintaining an operating system.

Torizon uses software containers, making it simple to add functionality to your system in a way that is both secure and easy to maintain. Torizon supports hardware acceleration in containers and graphical user interfaces.

Updates and Highlights

TorizonCore

• Regular updates: the user space packages were updated to the latest version.
• New features included in TorizonCore 5
  • Bootloader updates: The feature has been backported from TorizonCore 6 to TorizonCore 5.7.2 as a means to enable upgrades from TorizonCore 5.x to TorizonCore 6.x.
  • The workflow looks as follows:
    • TorizonCore 5.7.0 → TorizonCore 5.7.2 or newer patch release → Bootloader update → TorizonCore 6

• Important bug fixes
  • The shutdown command does not power off the board and instead results in a partial reboot.
  • Device updates may get locked in a pending state.

Intended Use

The TorizonCore 5.7.2 Maintenance Release is the maintenance release for TorizonCore 5 LTS and is a production-grade release. It is recommended for users that intend to:

• Maintain updated OS images on devices running TorizonCore 5
• Upgrade devices in the field from TorizonCore 5 to TorizonCore 6

Hardware Support

A maintenance release is a production release, intended to be used in a production environment only with volume products, as long as they are supported by TorizonCore. We run a set of tests to validate them. Learn more about our release types from our Embedded Linux Support Strategy.

• Volume products: Apalis iMX6, Apalis iMX8, Colibri iMX6DL, and Colibri iMX7D 1GB
  • This release is intended to be used in production on these modules.
• Sample products: Colibri iMX6ULL 1GB, Verdin iMX8M Mini, Verdin iMX8M Plus, and Colibri iMX8X
  • Due to the hardware status being "sample", this release is intended for development.
  • For Verdin, only the second generation of Verdin products is supported.
